Welcome back!

All Library Media Specialists & Teachers assigned to Libraries,

Welcome back! …and we’re back! NYCSLA, the New York City School Librarians’ Association, is back in business after being inactive for nearly two years. We wish you a wonderful year and are excited to serve you as the local affiliate of the New York Library Association’s School Library Media Section (NYLA/SLMS). We are your local professional organization.

The 2009-2011 Executive Board consists of seven members: Sara Paulson, President; Cheryl Wolf, 1st Vice-President; Lauren Soucy, 2nd Vice President/Membership Coordinator; Melissa Ahart, Corresponding Secretary/Webmaster; Beth St. John, Recording Secretary; Andrea Swenson, Treasurer; and, Rena Deutche, former President.

NYCSLA’s goals are to get librarians together for socializing, sharing skills, and networking, and to support and spearhead advocacy work here in the city and in Albany. We will form local networks so members can meet locally, throughout the boroughs, and will brainstorm a handful of committees to do work in promoting libraries and literacies.

Become a member today! Membership dues are only $20/yr, and can be deducted from your taxes. Graduate students can join for $10/yr. Find our menu of events, and membership information online: on our web site (http://nycsla.org), follow us on Twitter, and join our Facebook group.

We have a great meeting planned on Tuesday, October 6th 4:30-6:30pm at PS63/The Neighborhood School in Lower Manhattan. Please come and meet your colleagues! Save the date.

If you cannot make it, send in your membership form snail mail, and look for our table at the School Library Services Fall conference on November 3rd! We want to meet you—please drop by! There you can join a local group or a committee. And, please email us with any questions!

Looking forward to a productive year and a growing network of fabulous NYC school librarians!

Sara Paulson
